An explosion occurred in a Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) police station in Peshawar Today (Sunday). Initial reports suggest that old explosive material kept in the CTD police station's storeroom detonated. The incident does not appear to be a terrorist attack, initially investigation suggested. Two officers were injured, one of the injured officers has been moved to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) and the other injured officer has been moved to Lady Reading Hospital. One of the police officers, Bilal, succumbed to his injuries and passed away in the hospital. "All the prisoners have been safely evacuated", assured the City's Police Chief (CCPO) Mian Saeed. He confirmed that the blast occurred in the police station's armoury after old explosives detonated. The fire spread to nearby ammunition, triggering further explosions. Police and security forces have cordoned off that area and clearance operations are underway. Bomb disposal, rescue and fire brigade teams remain on site, continuing their work.
