Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday congratulated Iraq’s newly appointed Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, extending his best wishes as he assumes office.
In a message shared on X, Shehbaz conveyed his confidence in the new Iraqi leadership and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening relations between the two countries.

“I congratulate my brother HE Mr Ali al-Zaidi on his appointment as Prime Minister of Iraq. I extend my warm wishes to him as he assumes this important responsibility,” the prime minister said.
Shehbaz emphasised Islamabad’s intent to work closely with Baghdad under the new government, highlighting the importance of deepening bilateral engagement.
“Pakistan looks forward to working closely with the new Iraqi government to further strengthen our bilateral ties and advance our shared aspirations for peace, stability, and prosperity in the region,” he added.
Trump supports Iraqi PM's appointment
US President Donald Trump on Friday told reporters he had spoken with Iraqi Prime Minister-designate Ali al-Zaidi on Thursday and voiced strong support for him.
"With our help, he won, and we want him to do very well. And I told him that the United States is with him all the way. It was a great victory, the new head of Iraq is somebody that we support, very strongly," Trump told reporters before he departed the White House for a trip to Florida.
